A brief history about Labo
In the beginning, Labo is known as Busog-on a community lead by Tarik-Kudook. It became Labo in 1600 during Spanish Era by misunderstanding between two languages. Lead by Sgt. Manuel Gonsalo de Villaceran, a Spanish missionary who want to cross the Labo River. He ask the Boat Man in the other side of the River to help them to cross the river and ask the boatman “Que pueblo eso este?” meaning what the name of this place. However, with their differences in language the boatman did not understand what the missionary is saying. Assuming the missionary is asking about the river the boatman replied with “LABO PO NG TUBIG” meaning the water is unclear. From then on our town become Labo. Labo became municipality on September 8, 1800 and became official as SB pass an ordinance declaring the foundation day of Labo.
